Hot ‘dogs: NFL Week 6

The ‘dogs have been biting lately, as underdogs went 8-6 against the number in Week 5, with seven of those winning outright. A lot more in play this week, so let’s throw the spotlight on a few.

Steelers +115 at Jets

This line has been all over the place, with the Steelers originally giving two points before Geno Smith and the Jets pulled off a Monday Night shocker in Atlanta. That outcome swung the game in favor of the Jets, who have held steady as a 1-2 point favorite throughout the week. With Pittsburgh coming off the bye and its season on the line against a Jets team that – despite the big win over the Falcons – is turnover-prone and coming off a short week, don’t hesitate to pull the trigger on Ben Roethlisberger notching that elusive first win.

Saints +120 in New England

The status of Rob Gronkowski is the determining factor in this game. Without him, the Patriots simply can’t keep up with Drew Brees, who’s 3-0 in his career vs. New England. Since all signs point to Gronk sitting out once again, jump on this plus-action as soon as possible. Once the star tight end is officially ruled out, the wiseguys will jump on the Saints and this line will take a nose dive toward a pickem.

Redskins +200 in Dallas

This is a value play, through and through. The public is high on the Cowboys after their near upset of the Broncos last week, which caused this line to open a point too high at -4.5, before continuing to be bet up. With the Redskins coming off the bye, look for them to start letting Robert Griffin III loose a little more, as they were rightfully cautious out of the gate with letting the quarterback call his own number. Washington also beat Dallas in both meetings last season, yet another reason to take advantage of getting 2-to-1 on your money in a game that figures to be tight.

Overall picks: 4-2
